Tim Ryan’s campaign for U.S. Senate today announced its commitment to participate in three televised debates with JD Vance this fall—something that an overwhelming majority of Ohio voters agree should happen:
- One hosted by WLWT News 5, at Parrish Auditorium on Miami University’s Hamilton Campus, on October 4, 2022;
- And one hosted by WFMJ-TV at Youngstown’s historic Stambaugh Auditorium, on October 19, 2022;
Additionally, Tim will take part in a debate hosted by Nexstar in Cleveland, on October 12, 2022 — provided JD Vance agrees to participate in the debate hosted by WFMJ.
Tim was the first candidate to announce his debate plan in August, which included debates hosted by two news organizations and one organized the Ohio Debate Commission, whose spring primary debate Vance participated in and praised the Commission for being a “reputable” organization. This updated schedule reflects Tim’s continued willingness to debate, while Vance has spent the last month ignoring debate organizers in an attempt to hide from Ohio voters and avoid answering for his sham non-profit that brought a doctor who downplayed the role of prescription drugs in the opioid epidemic directly to Ohio and to distract from his extreme and deeply unpopular calls for a national abortion ban.
“Tim Ryan believes Ohioans deserve to see their Senate candidates debate on a public stage, which is why he has agreed to an updated debate schedule with three reputable hosts,” said Tim for Ohio campaign manager Dave Chase. “Unsurprisingly, JD Vance has been ignoring the Ohioans who want to see this debate, by ducking debate organizers, creating last-minute scheduling conflicts, and refusing to come to the table. This is clearly a last-ditch effort by JD to avoid answering questions about his sham non-profit that brought a Purdue Pharma mouthpiece to Ohio and his extreme position of calling for a national abortion ban. Tim is ready to debate, now it’s up to JD to stop hiding from voters and give Ohioans the debate they deserve.”
